Which States Build the Greenest?

As the Trump administration works to loosen environmental laws, some states are shifting to strengthen them. In New York, lawmakers have devised a plan to almost eradicate carbon emissions by 2050.

But which states are constructing within the greenest method? The nonprofit United States Green Building Council not too long ago answered that query, rating states in line with the variety of sq. ft of latest development per capita that had been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification in 2018, underneath the group’s business score system. Buildings thought of included mixed-use high-rises, condominium and house buildings, in addition to institutional and business properties, however not single-family properties.

LEED is probably the most broadly used environmental score system for buildings. But the largest winner isn’t a state, so it didn’t make the checklist: Washington, D.C., had almost 62 sq. ft of LEED-certified development per resident, with greater than 37 million sq. ft in 145 tasks.
